Prescriptions for our patients:

We stock these medications here, AND if you are traveling we can see the nearest location and availability of these Covid meds to you.  We now also have the new Bi-valent Covid booster vaccines to administer in your home.

Our doctors write prescriptions for our patients and administer these medications at your home:

  • Paxlovid, an antiviral for high risk patients over the age of 12 is a first line of defense medication.
  • On hold 2022: Bebtelovimab IV monoclonal antibodies for infected people.
  • On hold 2023: EvuSheld long term monoclonal antibodies as preventative.
  • Covid vaccines of all types

The following medication was placed on hold by FDA.  We look forward to replacements for Bebtelovimab IV monoclonal antibodies for currently infected people: We also have the IV medication Bebtelovimab in-stock here thanks to Cailf Public Health Dept.  This is a direct-acting antibody for qualified people infected now, administered as an IV in your home with the patient monitored after administration in your home. Bebtelovimab monoclonal antibody medication is prescribed for complex patients currently infected and testing positive with Covid-19.  Call to discuss your situation.

The following medication was placed on hold in 2023 by FDA:   pre-exposure long-term monoclonal antibodies called EvuSheld were available.  It is a long-term preventative antibody prescribed for compromised patients or unable to take vaccines.  Evusheld is not for patients with a current infection — it’s a pre-exposure therapeutic.

Evusheld was recommended for patients who have moderate-to-severe immune compromised status due to a medical condition or who have received immunosuppressive medications or treatments and may not mount an adequate immune response to COVID-19 vaccination.

or

For patients with a history of severe adverse reaction (e.g., severe allergic reaction to polysorbate 80) from a COVID-19 vaccine

How to qualify

Your medical history will help the doctor determine what theraputics may be appropriate prescriptions for you. We track the locations and local pharmacy inventories of these and other medications. We write prescriptions in our local area where our doctors examine and treat patients face-to-face in the patient’s home.

  •  Our medical staff has done this often. We are fast at completing all the steps starting with documenting a positive test to evaluation, prescription or administration of the therapy  at your bedside.  Call today and we will answer your questions.

Evaluate risk: for yourself or employees

We focus on the detailed research and avoid the news shouted from rooftops.  Our team has found several clear explanations that really help people undersand.  Links to the original articles are below.

We found an excellent blog post that easily explains how to identify safer vs risky situations.  It is written by Dr Erin Bromley, a Comparative Immunologist and Professor of Biology, Univ of Massachusetts, Dartmouth.

Last is the easy question.  Which is better: soap or hand sanitizer?

To a large extent your choices come down to avoiding poorly ventilated places, long extended contact, and close contact in some types of situations.  It would be nice if the rest of the world wrote so clearly.

.  Recommended treatments have changed over time.

Rule #1:  "Evolution selects for viruses that spread well, and whether that makes disease severity go up or down is mostly a matter of luck" according to Dr Colby at Univ of Chicago and Drs. Bloom and Star at Cancer Research Center in Seattle.  That is the future path of Covid-19.  There is a great article by them  linked below on this page.

Rule #2:  Treatment will change over time.  We are seeing that already with two of the monoclonal antibodies pulled back as no long effective.

Rule #3: Antiviral meds work in one of two ways.  An antiviral can block  attachment points used by the virus to grab onto your cells.  Or, an antiviral may reduce the replication of viruses already inside your cells   Anti-viral medications have been available since the 1960's for a few viruses such as Influenza A and B, herpes, hep B and C. For the first time, Covid antivirals are now starting to become available.

Some of the best info about risk and variants

Even a little familiarity with the ideas about virus evolution and mutation can help you decide about vaccinations and feel comfortable as treatments change.  This is a great "how and why" article by Doctors Colby, Bloom and Star.  The first few graphics just give you an overall picture.  Please do follow through to the main article.  This ink to the actual article is provided under fair use.

The future of Covid-19

We are also sharing the work of Dr Erin Bromage, UMass Dartmouth, and others under fair use. We provide this info in two ways.  First, the direct links to the original stories are listed here.  Second, as a PDF that is reformatted to help you walk straight into a meeting.  The short summary:  Infection risk is based on the viral load x duration of the encounter.   Like Dr. Bromage says, our "goal is to make

the science accessible to the general public'.

Medical consultation for businesses

Using genetic PCR test we collect samples on your site from company teams or entire staffs.  We send tests to the labs. Results are provided for return-to-work clearances for entire work groups or companies.

We do some significant steps to speed results: our staff electronically uploads demographic data directly into the laboratory.  This means your specimens arrive at the lab, barcode scanned, and go directly for processing.

Others are not so lucky -- samples from elsewhere sit and wait for 300+ laboratory employees to manually re-type info from paper requisitions. Paper?  Really ??

Screening is available via both genetic PCR to find active infections or antibody testing to help identify recovered team members.

CDC illustration of COVID-19 coronavirus

We have been on top of the COVID-19 spread — with our protocols developing and in place — since mid January 2020. Tests for COVID-19 and respiratory viruses are available as part of our appointments.  We take it seriously because we manage large numbers of very complex patients.

Here are some of our steps:

1. Our staff is ideal for treatment of patients in the home. We dispatch each physician or PA-C from their home to you. Video conference is also an option when medically appropriate.

Providers only come by the dispatch/billing office (no contact) to get fresh supplies or hand-off of lab specimens. We have infection control systems in place and minimize contact in both directions.

We screen both you and us

TeleConference and Face-to-face

Protocols in place since mid January 2020

2. We screen both sides (both you and our medical staff) for symptoms before the appointment in your home. All our staff are 100% vaccinated.   Any staff or provider displaying symptoms will be tested before they return to work, and anyone testing positive for Covid-19 will be quarantined at home for the CDC’s recommended time (currently 14 days).

3. No waiting room, ever. That’s true now, and true for the entire history of House Call Doctor Thousand Oaks. We have a number of options during your appointment that support social distancing, N95 masks, gloves and more as medically appropriate.

We also sometimes suggest meeting outside, for example on your porch or patio as long as that is comfortable for you, as a way to further reduce any viral load.

4. All patient appointments include follow up by phone and/or TeleMedicine video. Once you are a patient here, as your condition changes just give us a call. When medically appropriate, we can do your initial consult the same way. Call our office to discuss other options for teleconference.
